How to get to Foxley Wood
Foxley Wood lies immediately to the north of the village of Linton, which is 3km (1.9 miles) south-west of Swadlincote in Derbyshire.
The wood forms part of the National Forest and there are four further Woodland Trust sites within the vicinity: Long Close, Top Wood, Botany Bay and Coton in the Elms.
From Burton-upon-Trent, head east on Dallow Street towards Horninglow Road/A511. Follow the A511 and A444 to Linton Heath, which is to the north of Overseal. Follow Linton Heath to Waterfallows Lane, which is about half-way down on the right. The wood can be accessed via the car park on Waterfallows Lane.
The nearest train station is Burton upon Trent, around 9.3km (5.8 miles) from the wood.

Facilities and access
Foxley Wood is directly accessible from Linton Main Street in the south-west and features a network of wide, grassy rides and footpaths.
A public footpath also runs in a generally east-west direction along the northern side of what was a newly planted dividing hedgerow.
There are 2,700 metres of grass footpaths which are regularly mown during the summer months, plus 800 metres of horse/cycle paths and a further 300-metre circuit of all-ability surfaced pathway.
In terms of landscape the site can be divided into two almost equal halves. The southern section close to the village is relatively flat whereas the northern section forms a north-facing concave slope.
There are two benches designed by a local artist in the wood.
There is a free car park at the Linton Heath entrance to the wood, with a two-metre height restriction and space for around 10 cars.
The nearest public toilets are at Woodville Road in Overseal, around 2km (1.2 miles) away. They are open seven days a week during daylight hours, and have disabled facilities.

This woodland creation site is home to many classic woodland animals. From the cheeky grey squirrel to the beautiful blue tit, there is lots of wildlife to discover here.

Foxley Wood was planted over 1995 and 1996 with help from the local community. The trees have established well, with the open areas seeded with wild flowers.

Walking
With incredible views over the Trent Valley and a mixture of habitats to explore, Foxley Wood is a great place to enjoy a walk. For a rest-stop during your walk, there are two benches in the wood which have been designed by a local artist.
Horse riding
With 800 metres of horse/cycle paths, a great way to explore Foxley Wood is via horseback.
Please keep to the designated bridleways when riding your horse in the wood.
