Fancy picking up some wildlife photography tips and learning how to inspire others using communications? Then come along to the Smithills Estate to get involved.

Working as part of a team under the guidance of two of our staff, you'll help develop a plan for a communications project to promote a conservation idea.

We'll also take part in the City Nature Challenge by uploading our images to iNaturalist. This is a wildlife recording challenge involving more than 650 cities across the world, with the aim of recording as much wildlife as possible. Our recordings will contribute towards conservation efforts both locally and on a global scale.

This event is part of a three-month series of events aimed at giving young people aged 13-17 experience in conservation work. All young people need to be accompanied by a supervising adult, who will be welcome to join in the activity.

We are running these sessions to recruit young volunteers for the Smithills Estate. Once registered as a volunteer, young people can attend regular volunteering sessions without their accompanying adult. Our young volunteers will carry out a variety of conservation tasks on the last Sunday of each month in 2025. They will meet and work as a team whilst supervised by Smithills Estate staff members.

We are keen to welcome more people to the team to build new skills, make friends and gain experience that makes your CV stand out.

This is a free event but booking in advance via Eventbrite is essential.
