This area of broadleaved woodland clings to the slope of Cow Hill, the highest point on the Town Moor. The hill commands spectacular views over Tyneside and Northumberland ' and it's a popular spot for sledging, skiing and snowboarding in winter. Two decent paths run through the wood from Grandstand Road, and several more approach it from the Moor side. Although the wood is relatively small, there's plenty of scope to explore ' the Town Moor itself covers almost 1000 acres of common land.
