The Haining is an enchanting woodland, easily accessible from the centre of Selkirk. There are waymarked routes, including ones that take in a loch-side walk. From this visitors can gain superb views of the house, coach house and encounter the delights of the ancient chestnut tree ...and The Walking Tree! The latter is a beech tree on the western edge if the loch path, signposted and not to be missed. There is a lime tree avenue, a walk around ancient ruins of a motte and bailey castle.
