Rollestone Wood

This wood is near a housing estate, and yes, there is some litter, but don't let that put you off, it is well worth a visit. This is rich, well-established woodland. Predominantly beech, there is also a lot of sweet chestnut and oak, with alder, birch and holly at a lower level. The paths are not level and are muddy after rain, but there are plenty of them to wander on. There is a small stream where we saw a dipper, and we also saw jays and a shrew. A delightful and surprising place.
