The Museum of Rural Life is jointly run by the National Trust and National Museums Scotland. The property is home to a custom built museum, cafe and shop as well as a working 1950s farm covering '170 acres, including farmland, species-rich grassland and woodland'. Although there are three areas of woodland on the property, only the small woods surrounding the original farmhouse are currently accessible. The farmhouse is a pleasant half-mile walk (or bumpy tractor ride!) from the modern museum.
