Marwood

These woods are easily accessible on foot from Barnard Castle, rich in wildlife, and have great views of the River Tees and the castle. Flatts Wood, the valley of the Percy Beck, is closest to the town, and, despite its name, is a dene with some steep footpaths. Teesbank Wood has a 3km footpath following the River Tees upstream. Both woods have some ancient trees and some flower species which are rare in the county.
