Long Lane Sandfield Quarry

A small privately-owned wood in a residential area next to the Ormskirk - Liverpool railway with open public access; the wood is on the site of a former sandstone quarry which was operating in the 19th century providing stone for local building. The wood is undergoing improvements: new footpaths, planting and a pond with decking access and seating. The remains of Sandfield House, the Quarry Master's home, are still in evidence (just) and there are signs of an orchard with apple and pear trees.
