Kirk Wood (1)

Kirk Wood and neighbouring Little Wood are situated within Chadkirk Country Estate. They are on steep ground but there are several paths linking it with the Goyt Valley. Kirk Wood has been classed as ancient woodland although the dominant canopy tree is Beech. Sycamore has become dominant is some areas. Some of these trees are being thinned out to improve the diversity of the ground flora by increasing light levels.
