Access to the wood is via a car park/picnic area on the opposite side of the road to the main entrance. The wood borders the River Annan at Hoddam. There are way-marked tracks through the wood and up to the pinnacle of the hill, beautifully named 'Woodcock Air.' From the top there are views across the Solway to the Lakes, west to Criffel, over to Queensberry and up the Annandale to the Moffat hills. The mixed woodland is at various stages of growth and great for wildlife. Well worth a visit.
