Eland Wood is a gateway site in the Needwood Forest area of The National Forest. The scheme was designed to restore the parkland landscape of the area, with areas of individual and small clumps of caged trees as well as denser planting blocks. A large amount of open ground has been left to support an existing curlew population. Tall shelters are used on the broadleaf species to prevent damage by fallow deer, which are common in the surrounding woodlands.
