A broadleaved woodland, comprising mainly of Beech, a sparse shrub layer compensates by having views out onto the surrounding picturesque countryside. There is a more recently planted area of mixed native broadleaves on the approach to the wood, again with fine views over Loch Ken. Make it a circular walk by turning left onto the road when exiting the wood at the other end, follow it round until the old derelict mill, then turn left down the road to return to Crossmichael village.
