Dalemain Estates - Birk Fell

This harder to access wood lies along the side of Ullswater and beside the southern footpath. This is accessible from the Howtown to Patterdale path. It is a piece of ancient woodland that runs on the lower slopes of the fells. There are many species to be seen for the patient person with some time to spare and look. A more distant, but good overview of the wood can be gained from the Glenridding to Howtown Ullswater Steamer.
