Cassop Vale NNR

Cassop Vale showcases some of the most diverse wildlife in County Durham featuring areas of woodland, open water and lowland grassland supporting a varied population of plants and birds. The unique nature of the area is a result of the lime rich soils, caused by a tropical sea which was present at the site around 250 million years ago.
