Brown Robin occupies the southern end of a low limestone hill above Grange over Sands. It is made up of roughly equal areas of woodland and grassland. The woodland is fairly typical of limestone woods in the area, being dominated by ash and hazel with yew forming dense stands in places. In spring, before the trees are in full leaf, the woodland floor has a magnificent display of bluebells, wood anemone, ramsons and primroses.
