In spring this delightful area of ancient woodland really comes alive with merry birdsong and the startling ratatat-tat of woodpeckers. A circular walk takes you around the heart of the wood, which from April onwards is carpeted with wild flowers such as bluebells, wood anemone, marsh marigold and yellow wood avens. In summer damsel flies and dragonflies can be seen patrolling the stream - a tributary of The Cut, a local waterway - that flows through the wood. Access is via Newport Drive.
