Our relationship began in 2020, when Pets at Home joined our Woodland Carbon scheme to lock up their unavoidable carbon emissions through planting trees. Since then, our partnership has continued to flourish. From capturing carbon emissions, to the launch of the Pet Memory Scheme. From joining tree planting events at Frodsham Woods, the Young People’s Forest at Mead in Derbyshire and at The Mystery in Liverpool, to tree dedications made across our estate as part of Pets at Home’s 30th birthday celebrations.

Locking up carbon

Pets at Home has funded the planting of over 28,000 native trees through our Woodland Carbon scheme, which will have the potential to absorb over 7,000e (estimated) tonnes of unavoidable carbon emissions over their lifetime.

In 2024, Pets at Home is donating a further £30,000 to fund the planting of around three hectares of native woodland, which will have the potential to mitigate 1,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide as part of its strategy to reduce its carbon footprint.

The woodlands we’re helping to create, restore and protect will not only provide a space for people and pets to enjoy together for years to come, but they also offer a physical space for reflection and remembrance. We’re incredibly proud of our partnership with the Woodland Trust and it’s been amazing to see our vet practices across the country rallying behind the cause.

Celebrating 30 years

As part of its 30th birthday celebrations, Pets at Home dedicated a tree for every colleague working across the group. Over 15,000 trees were planted in 21 woodland groves across the UK, with each of the 21 groves having a beautiful bench installed for colleagues, walkers and their pets to enjoy.

Pet Memory Scheme

Our pets are a big part of our family, so when they pass, it's important to make sure their lives - and the joy they brought - are remembered. It's this that inspired the launch of Pets at Home's Pet Memory Scheme in 2021.

Now in its fourth year, over 400 vet practices make donations to the Woodland Trust in memory of the many beloved pets they've cared for. The impact of their donations is making a vital difference to woods and trees in the UK, with more than 6,000 acres of woodland protected, restored or created through our partnership so far - the equivalent of around 3,000,000 trees.

Vets for Pets has pledged to create, protect and restore over 8,000 hectares of woodland by 2030 as part of its Our Better World Pledge.

I am immensely proud of our Pet Memory Scheme and all it has achieved in its first three years; over 6,000 acres of native woods protected, created or restored across the UK is nothing short of incredible. The initiative reflects both our, and our practices’ commitment to both the memory of the pets they care for and the environment we all share. By contributing to the Woodland Trust, we are all supporting vital efforts to protect, create, and restore native woodlands across the UK. This program embodies our dedication to sustainability and the profound connections we foster with our clients and their pets.
