Hills Wood

The Hills is a wood where natural regeneration of the forest is being actively encouraged. This is a wood where wildlife is becoming increasingly diverse as a result of this policy. It is a haven for varied native wildlife species. The Flycatcher Walk is an enjoyable 1.5 mile circular walk through the wood. The old Dumfries to Stranraer railway line forms a short part of the walk. Ferns and mosses cling to the rocks on the railway cutting. Birdlife is similarly varied.
