Coalburn Phase 1 + 2 (Dalquhandy Site)

These woods are on the site of a former opencast mine. Parking at site in Middlemuir Road at the bottom end of the town. Grassy foot paths throughout that wind up to the back of Coalburn. A good mixture of young trees and lots of open moorland and grassland. Several settling ponds on site which are great for dragonflies and damselflies. Popular with locals especially dog walkers. Good views and well worth a visit. Great to see nature changing this old mining site for the better.
