This wood was planted in the 1960s as a coniferous forest with a forest drive but is now being slowly planted with native broadleaf trees such as oak and ash, etc. Adjacent to the Castle Eden Walkway it provides a peaceful detour away from the walkway. The driveway, in parts, is a permissive bridleway whilst small paths leading off from either side provide interesting detours some of which are bridleways. There is a car park off the A689 (Northern end of the wood with a picnic area)
