Balls Wood

A good-sized wood with a long footpath around the perimeter and a grid-work of more open rides through the centre. A range of broadleaved tree species, including old hornbeam coppices, with a stand of conifers to the rear of the site. Several small ponds dotted around the site support dragonflies, toads and great-crested newts, whilst the rides provide sunny open spaces for white admiral butterflies, bluebells, wood anemone, early purple orchid and herb paris. Adjacent to Hertford Heath.
