Our relationship began in 2020, when Pets at Home joined our Woodland Carbon scheme to lock up their unavoidable carbon emissions through planting trees. Since then, our partnership has continued to flourish.

We reached a milestone moment in May 2025, marking a magnificent £1 million in donations thanks to the Pet Memory Scheme. We celebrated with a visit to our Smithills estate in Bolton. It was the perfect place to see the difference we can make to protecting our woods and recovering biodiversity when we work in partnership.

Hands on for nature

The Pets at Home and Vets for Pets teams have had hands-on impact in our woodlands, thanks to the many volunteering events they've taken part in throughout our partnership.

From tree planting events at Frodsham Woods, the Young People's Forest at Mead in Derbyshire and at The Mystery in Liverpool, to helping us restore our woods at Smithills by tackling invasive species - including undertaking rhododendron removal.

The partnership between Pets at Home and the Woodland Trust is really important to us as a business. We appreciate the many benefits of spending time in nature, and the need to care for and protect these woodlands that are so loved by us and our pets. Through our Pet Memory Scheme we’re helping to make a difference by supporting the restoration and protection of woods and trees – creating vital homes for nature so that pets and the people who love them can enjoy them now and in the future.

Pet Memory Scheme

Our pets are a big part of our family, so when they pass, it's important to make sure their lives - and the joy they brought - are remembered. It's this that inspired the launch of Pets at Home's Pet Memory Scheme in 2021.

Now in its sixth year, over 450 vet practices make donations to the Woodland Trust in memory of the many beloved pets they've cared for. The impact of their donations is making a vital difference to woods and trees in the UK, with almost 10,000 acres of woodland protected, restored or created through our partnership so far - the equivalent of around 4,700,000 trees.

Vets for Pets has pledged to create, protect and restore over 8,000 hectares of woodland by 2030 as part of its Our Better World Pledge.

Celebrating 30 years

As part of its 30th birthday celebrations, Pets at Home dedicated a tree for every colleague working across the group. Over 15,000 trees were planted in 21 woodland groves across the UK, with each of the 21 groves having a beautiful bench installed for colleagues, walkers and their pets to enjoy.

We’re delighted to see our partnership with Pets at Home and Vets for Pets thriving for over six years. We’re grateful to work with a business that recognises the many benefits of healthy UK woodlands for climate, nature and people, supporting all aspects of our conservation work. Our work together to increase the resilience of our woodlands to drive nature recovery and improve access to the benefits of trees for everyone is more vital than ever.
