Our relationship began in 2020 when Pets at Home joined our Woodland Carbon scheme to lock up their unavoidable carbon emissions through planting trees. Since then, our partnership has continued to flourish. From capturing carbon emissions, to the launch of the Pet Memory Scheme. From joining tree planting events at the Young People’s Forest at Mead in Derbyshire and at The Mystery in Liverpool, to tree dedications made across our estate as part of Pets at Home’s 30th birthday celebrations.

Locking up carbon

Pets at Home has funded the planting of over 18,500 native trees through our Woodland Carbon scheme which will have the potential to absorb over 4,500 tonnes of unavoidable carbon emissions over their lifetime.

In 2023, Pets at Home will donate a further £45,000 to fund the planting of around five hectares of native woodland which will have the potential to mitigate 1,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide as part of its strategy to reduce its carbon footprint.

The woodlands we’re helping to create, restore and protect will not only create a space for people and pets to enjoy together for years to come, but they also offer a physical space for reflection and remembrance. We’re incredibly proud of our partnership with the Woodland Trust and it’s been amazing to see our vet practices across the country rallying behind the cause.

Celebrating 30 years

As part of its 30th birthday celebrations, Pets at Home dedicated a tree for every colleague working across the group. Over 15,000 trees were planted in 21 woodland groves across the UK, with each of the 21 groves having a beautiful bench installed for colleagues and walkers to enjoy.

Pet Memory Scheme

In 2021, Pets at Home launched its Pet Memory Scheme. Vet practices can make a donation to the Woodland Trust to recognise and celebrate the lives of the much-loved pets they have cared for, and to extend their sympathy to bereaved owners.

Over 400 Vets4Pets and Companion Care practices (both part of the Pets at Home Group) participate and collectively donated to the protection, restoration and creation of woodland across the UK. Their efforts cover more than 4,000 acres, which equates to around two million trees. Vets4Pets has pledged to create, protect and restore over 8,000 hectares of woodland by 2030 as part of its Our Better World Pledge.

Our partnership is multi-faceted from the ground-breaking Pet Memory Scheme we shaped together with our vet practices to our carbon mitigation programme, to how we support our colleagues to undertake vital volunteer work in their woodlands through our community impact days. We are excited for what the future holds and how together we can keep making a difference.
