NATIONAL TRUST WOOD
There are two parts to Brownsea Island, that owned by National Trust and the northern part which is managed by the Dorset Wildlife Trust (see separate site page). Both parts are substantially wooded. The NT part is largest and is covered with many different species of trees. Brownsea is one of the few places in UK where red squirrels thrive. Here they have no competition from the grey. Although there is price to pay with ferry and landing charges made by NT the expense is well worth it.
